Editors Letter – Simple Pleasures

Simple Pleasures

To June and all the simple pleasures ahead. I’m looking forward to cottage living, backyard camping, beach reads, morning birds, and sand between my toes.

Editors note: I had originally intended on writing this piece professing my love of summer days. Then it became clear that the current events needed my attention and the attention of everyone else. So I paused content and decided to hold off on our monthly Editors Letter in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement in protesting the death of George Floyd. But even more importantly I did it to bring awareness to the oppression and racism people of colour face and to speak up against police violence.

Our world looks vastly different than it did last summer, and normally I’d be writing about summer bucket lists and travel ideas. Instead, we are focusing inward and choosing to find simple pleasures in the things around us. We will be sharing hacks to live a more mindful life, healthy routines, and of course a ton of beauty and style tips. I’ll be sharing our kitchen and bathroom makeovers, closet organization hacks, and how to talk to your children about the current issues.

My book list this month was inspired to invoke thoughtful discussions about privilege and race. I hope you will read along with me as I will be sharing reviews of these books soon. I also want to encourage you to join me in a future discussion on the blog regarding these current issues and themes.

I’m sure I mentioned before but I was using a meditation app every morning and let me tell you. It has made such a positive impact on my mental health. You can sign up for a free trial on Headspace and try it yourself.

Currently slowing down to appreciate the simple pleasures of summer. This means I’ve been cooking more seasoned meals including fresh-caught salmon, garden vegetables, and summer fruit.

We’ve also started a weekly cook with me a challenge on Instagram which you can find every Thursday.

    1. So far all three books are amazing. I started listening to Becoming and The Skin We’re in on Audible and I ended up buying Untamed the book but I would say they are all a must especially in light of recent events. xoxo
