DIY Coastal Kitchen with Charleston Crafted

Hello, my name is Morgan, and my husband Sean and I run CharlestonCrafted.com, a blog about crafting our dream home with the power of DIY. We share doable DIY and woodworking projects to inspire you to craft your current home into the home of your dreams.

I was so excited when Stephanie asked me to share my DIY coastal kitchen with y’all. This kitchen was actually in our last house (we moved just about one year ago) and when we bought the house it was a 90’s relic!

We transformed the kitchen to have a light, bright, coastal cottage feel.

The Story of our DIY Coastal Kitchen

We knew that in order to modernize the space, we needed to open it up. So, we had the wall between the kitchen and dining area taken down professionally. That instantly made it feel lighter and larger.

From there, we painted the cabinets white, with a mint green island – Watery by Sherwin Williams.

We took down the old wallpaper and painted all the walls Online by Sherwin Williams. We extended the cabinets to the ceiling and added crown molding. We added a built-in open shelf and tilt-out trash can to the lower cabinets. And we added slow-close hardware to all of the doors and drawers!

The star of this kitchen is absolutely the countertops. They were professionally made from recycled glass and oyster shells. We actually got to pick each shade of glass – that is wine bottles, coca-cola glasses, and an old window!

We had so much fun transforming this space and I think that it is a really good demonstration that you don’t need to change the layout or totally gut a kitchen to give it a fresh new look.
